Staff writer

Marion and Peabody-Burns golfers played 36 holes and two full rounds of golf Friday at Marion and Hillsboro golf courses in the annual Marion County Invitational.

Senior Jared Hague shot the lowest for the team at both courses. At Hillsboro, he scored 100. He improved by eight strokes at Marion to score a 92 and finish with a combined two-round total of 192 strokes. He placed 40th out of 72 golfers.

Ezra Darnall shot a 114 in Hillboro and a 99 in Marion to place 54th. Jade Corona shot a 117 in Hillsboro and a 99 Marion to place 55th. Jayton Scott shot a 105 in Hillsboro and a 124 in Marion to place 58th.

Hutchinson

Marion and Peabody-Burns golfers also traveled to Hutchinson on Monday to play in a small six-team tournament with 26 total golfers.

“I wasn’t overly excited about how we performed,” coach Jim Pohlman said. “It wasn’t a good day for us.”

Pohlman said that although Hague shot 102 to medal at seventh place, the team did not fare so well.

“Jared was in a three-way tie for fifth, sixth, and seventh but his score on the handicap holes wasn’t as good as the other two golfers,” Pohlman said. “As a team, we came in fifth. The sixth place team didn’t have a full team.”

Marion and Peabody-Burns’ team was also short one golfer. Kaden Gibson, Ian Orrock, Jayton Scott, and Ezra Darnall made up the rest of the team.

Hague is the only golfer Pohlman plans to take to the regional competition on May 19.
