Marion native Whitney Gordon will partake in the proverbial madness this March, as the Emporia State women’s basketball team, of which Gordon is a member, reached the NCAA division II championship tournament.
Gordon is in her first season as a junior-year transfer for the Hornets. She’s a role player on the team, averaging 1.2 points and 2.7 rebounds in 7.7 minutes per game.
“She’s a rebounding machine when she gets time out there,” Assistant Athletic Director Don Weast said. “She leads the team in rebounding percentage.”
Emporia State earned a No. 2 seed in the tournament, and its first round game is Friday against No. 7-seeded Arkansas Tech. The Hornets would play Saturday if they win, then Monday in a regional final in potentially the fourth game this season between the Hornets and No. 1 seed Fort Hays State.
