Marion High School musicians Sarah Guetersloh and Landon Leiker played with South Central Kansas Music Educators Association Honor Band Saturday in Wichita.
They auditioned, along with 616 other students from the region, for the band. Guetersloh was selected as first-chair trombone and Leiker was selected as first-chair trumpet.
MHS band director Adam Johnson said being selected is a great accomplishment, but being chosen for first chair indicates a student was the very best among their instrument.
Honor band conductor Jeff Pelischek is director of bands at Hutchinson Community College. He told Johnson that Guetersloh and Leiker must be great players for the MHS band, and Johnson agreed.
They will audition in January for state honor band.
