Free immunizations are available from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Marion County Health Department, 230 E. Main St., Marion and Kansas Department of Health and Environment are encouraging those who have not been vaccinated against the 2009 H1N1 influenza A virus, to do so.

The health department gave more than 160 vaccines Jan. 6, but have a sufficient supply to continue giving for some time.

Even though H1N1 flu cases have decreased significantly in Kansas, a rebound in flu activity is possible.

“There is now plenty of vaccine available, and it has been shown to be safe and effective,” Kansas State Health Officer and Director of the Division of Health at KDHE Dr. Jason Eberhart-Phillips said. “In contrast, we know that the pandemic H1N1 flu can be severe or even fatal.”
