Happy Hustlers donate for Christmas

4-H club reporter

At 6 p.m. Dec. 5, the Happy Hustlers 4-H Club met at the Marion Christian Church to gather their donations for the community Christmas. Members each brought cookies for cookie plates, put them together, and delivered them to local 4-H supporters. Then the 4-Hers went caroling at St. Luke’s Living Center. The club donated and delivered a basket of fresh fruit to the center. Then they went back to the Christian Church for their monthly meeting.

President Nick Meyer called the meeting to order. Junior officers shadowed their respective positions. Jarret McLinden led the Pledge of Allegiance and Lauren McLinden led the 4-H Pledge. Roll call was “Name your favorite Christmas carol.” Secretary Cade Harms read the minutes from the previous meeting and they were approved as read.

Treasurer Lauren McLinden shared the club’s current balance. Reporter Micayla Stika said the report from the previous meeting was published in local newspapers. Parliamentarian Alex Stika explained the proper way to make a motion. Council Representative Elizabeth Meyer shared what was discussed at the last council meeting. She announced that 4-H camp will be June 8 to 12 and that Sedgwick and Shawnee counties will be joining the Marion camp group.

A club lock-in will be Feb. 10 and 11 at Eastmoor Church.

Angie Stika announced that a countywide fiber arts meeting will be Jan. 14 at the Hillsboro City Building. 4-H Day with the Lady Wildcats will be Feb. 18, and those interested should bring their money to the January club meeting. County Club Day will be Feb. 25.

There will be a foods and fiber arts project meeting Dec. 28 at the Christian Church. All members are invited to attend at the end to work on record books. An e-mail announcement will be sent with times.

There will be a project meeting/Christmas party on Dec. 22 for those enrolled in sewing, reading, and horse projects.

To start the program, song leader Payton Harms led the club in singing Happy Birthday to the December birthday people. Then all sang, “Deck the Halls.”

Micayla Stika gave a presentation on the basics of giving a talk for club day. Hap Waddell, Larry Zieammermann, and Johnny Zieammermann gave a skit, “How to Read a Book Out Loud, Kinda.” As a club activity, the community leaders started a paper chain by having everyone write their name on a link. We will add to it at the next meeting. Recreation leader Jarret McLinden led the group in playing, “Santa, Santa, where’s your sleigh?”

Members were asked to think about the following for the next meeting — what can you bring to 4-H, and what do you hope to get out of 4-H?

The next meeting will be 7 p.m. Jan. 2 at the Marion Christian Church and will be run by the junior officers.
