Harold Christner

Harold F. Christner, 78, of Herington died Saturday at Salina Regional Health Center. He was born March 19, 1935, to Simon S. “Pete” and Gertrude I. (Steely) Christner in Lost Springs.

He graduated from Lost Springs High School in 1953. After school, he served with the U.S. Army, 5th Armored Division in Frankfurt, Germany. He was an auto mechanic all his life, working in Herington and California.

He married Beverly Cheever on Oct. 30, 1965, in Herington. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two infant sons, Robert Harold and Jeffery Grant, and his parents.

He is survived by a daughter, Shaunai Rochelle of Herington; a sister, Ella Kresky of Salina; and two brothers, Leroy Christner of Herington and Wendell Christner of McPherson.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel.

He donated his body to the University of Kansas Medical Center anatomy department to help educate future doctors. He will be inurned later in Lost Springs Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University.
