Harvey Falen

Harvey J. Falen, 94, of Hope died Aug. 15 at Village Manor in Abilene.

He was born Dec. 25, 1916, to Alden and Florence (Ettridge) Falen of Hope. He grew up in the Hope community and attended Dillon Grade School and Hope High School.

He married Rose Irene Morgan on April 18, 1941, in Hope. He was a farmer and stockman, and they lived and farmed in the Hope area all of their married life.

Rose preceded him in death on July 10, 1997.

He was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church in Elmo, a former member of the Ramona Co-op Board, the Hope Co-op Board, and received a Dickinson County Conservation Award for shelterbelts.

He is survived by one son, Dan Falen of Hope; one daughter, Jean Marie Ervin of Laquey, Mo; a sister, Frances Falen of Salina; a grandson, John West of Platte City, Mo.; and other relatives and friends.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harry Falen, and his stepmother, Catherine Falen.

A Mass of Christian Burial was Aug. 19 at St. Columba Catholic Church in Elmo with Fr. Mark Wesely officiating. Burial was at St. Phillip’s Cemetery, Hope.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Indian School in Chamberlain, S.D., or to St. Columba Catholic Church. Contributions may be left with Carlson-Becker Funeral Home in Hope.
