Nearly every parent has them — special ornaments and decorations made by their children in school or church that are saved and displayed every year on the family tree.
Andy and Staci Hansen, 1842 Quail Creek Road, Marion, are no different. In the guest suite, a family tree stands with ornaments made by their daughters, Kirsten and Kourtney.
“We decorate that tree together,” Staci said.
The suite is a special part of the home because it is where extended family members from western Kansas stay when they come to Marion to visit.
A glass case displays the wedding dress worn by Staci’s mother. Also on display is a blanket that belonged to Andy’s grandfather, which was used on his favorite horse.
Since the girls — now in seventh and fifth grade, respectively — were young, they have received Precious Moments figurines.
“My mother has been buying those for them,” Staci said.
Oak curio cabinets, built by Andy, display the collectibles. Much of the furniture throughout the Hansen home was made by Andy.
When visitors enter the home, they will see a tree decorated Victorian-style “with a contemporary flare,” Staci said. Shades of brown and gold will be dominate.
Hunting will be the décor theme in the basement. Trees also will be displayed in the girls’ rooms.
Staci will have some assistance from her sister-in-law, Christina Hett of Marion.
The Hansen family moved to Marion 15 years ago — Andy is originally from Oakley and Staci is from Winona. Staci is a first-grade teacher at Marion Elementary School. Her husband owns a printing business in Salina.
