Hello, and goodbye

It’s been a couple of months since I’ve been back at the Ol’ Thing, and I hardly feel like I’m settled in. Some things are familiar, but much has changed even in the short time I was away.

It’s been good to have an understanding and supportive staff as I acclimate to my new position as news editor. They laugh, for the most part, at my jokes. They’ve helped me to learn changes in style since I last was here. They’ve put up with the bumps and missteps a former reporter has trying out the new tasks of news editor, and there have been a few.

Now, I’m going to have the chance to ‘break in’ another “newbie,” because this week we reluctantly say goodbye to Olivia Haselwood, who has accepted a job in Winfield that will let her focus on agriculture and sports writing, and will fit her family schedule better.

Olivia has been our social media guru, generating countless ideas that have found their way into our pages in some of the best features stories we’ve printed since I’ve been back.

We’re going to miss her, we wish her well, and who knows? Maybe she’ll be back.
