Hillsboro Chamber seeks new home as building listed for sale

Staff writer

The future of the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce office is uncertain because the building that houses the office is up for sale.

Hillsboro mayor Delores Dalke said the building, owned by Russell and Jeanne Groves, was listed for sale with her agency, Real Estate Center, on Sept. 26 and the asking price is $65,000.

Dalke said it’s likely the Chamber will have to find a new home if the Main St. building sells.

“It’s a wonderful spot for the Chamber,” Dalke said. “They’re working on trying to find somewhere else.”

Her best guess is the Chamber will have about 30 days to find a new location when the building sells.

Chamber vice president Cynthia Fleming said the Chamber has been housed at 120 N. Main St. about three years. The Chamber has shared an office with the city’s Arts & Crafts Association for years.

“We are looking for a new location,” Fleming said. “We’re trying to relocate somewhere in the downtown area.”

Fleming also said the current location has worked well for the Chamber. Its space is more than sufficient and a smaller building might be considered, she said.

“Obviously if the building didn’t sell we’d stay there,” Fleming said.

Fleming said the Chamber is exploring what buildings are available and what rent and utilities are likely to cost.

“We’ve really appreciated the place where we’ve been and thank the landlords for letting us be there,” Fleming said.

She said she expects Arts & Crafts Association to move as well and share the Chamber’s future location.
