Hillsboro gets peek at renovated stadium

Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce members got a sneak preview Thursday evening of the progress of USD 410/Tabor College stadium, field, and track complex.

The stadium, field, track, parking lot, and concession stand are a combined project of the school district and college and totaled more than $4 million.

“The land is jointly owned,” Tabor President Jules Glanzer said. “The design and construction decisions have been jointly made. The project is jointly paid for by USD 410 and Tabor College.”

A two-story locker room and athletic center is a Tabor College project, but the school district will be allowed access as needed. Nearly $2 million has been raised or committed to the project which also will fund athletic department needs for the next two years.

Included in the locker room building is Tabor Hall of Fame where past college athletes will be recognized for their prowess on the field.

The joint project of the new Joel Wiens Stadium includes an upgrade of Reimer Field with synthetic turf, a new soccer field, an eight-lane track, press box, concession stand, a new area for track events, parking lot, and new seating.

The football field will be ready for the first home game of the season for Hillsboro High School. The entire project will be ready by Sept. 19, the first Tabor home game, Glanzer said.
