Police report

Feb. 21: Marion County Sheriff’s Department received assistance in searching for a driver involved in a traffic accident and with an injury accident on 190th Road. A tree limb was reported in electrical lines in the 300 block of South Birch Street. A traffic complaint was checked at Ash and D streets.

Feb. 22: A domestic disturbance was reported in the 900 block of East D Street and determined to be a verbal confrontation between a female and a male visitor. The visitor was asked to leave the residence. An officer instructed a DARE class at Hillsboro Elementary School. A motorist received assistance in the 500 block of East Grand Avenue. An individual reported a possible child sexual abuse case that had occurred several years ago in the area.

Feb. 23: Response was given to an activated commercial alarm in the 200 block of North Main Street. An officer and K-9 searched a vehicle in the 500 block of East Grand Avenue. A harassment complaint in the 800 block of East D Street was determined to be a civil matter. An individual was fingerprinted for employment purposes.

Feb. 24: A stray dog was turned over to the police department. Suspicious activity was checked in the 200 block of South Lincoln Street. An officer assisted with a child safety seat. A dog complaint was filed in the 300 block of North Washington Street.

Feb. 25: A mental health worker received assistance with a confused person in the 400 block of North Ash Street. The sheriff’s department received assistance with a civil process. A disturbance was reported in the 300 block of South Ash Street.

Feb. 26: Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitative Services received assistance with a child welfare concern in the 400 block of South Main Street when three children were taken into protective custody because of living conditions. Drug paraphernalia was removed from the residence and charges are pending. Vandalism was reported in the 100 block of South Main Street when holes were made in a window, possibly by a BB gun. Hillsboro City Council packets were delivered. Officers provided assistance regarding a welfare concern from South Carolina.

Feb. 27: A suspicious vehicle was checked in the 400 block of East Grand Avenue. A report was made of people shooting a BB gun in the 400 block of West B Street. Unsupervised children were reported on Tabor College property. When a suspicious person was being checked in the 100 block of South Cedar Street, the individual fled on foot before being confronted.

Feb. 28: A suicidal person was reported at Hillsboro Community Hospital. A second report was filed regarding a suicidal person in a vehicle and possibly being in Hillsboro. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.

March 1: The sheriff’s department received assistance with a civil standby. A violation of bond conditions was reported in the 400 block of South Birch Street. Trash, which contained an address and had been thrown on U.S. 56, was retrieved and given to law enforcement. Utility workers received assistance with security in the 400 block of South Main Street after possible threats being made by a resident. A runaway juvenile was reported in the 200 block of South Ash Street. An individual reported trading items with someone in Newton and said they had not received anything in return. The matter was determined to be a civil matter.

March 2: The police department of Norman, Okla., received assistance with an investigation. A DARE class was taught at HES. A forgery complaint was filed in the 500 block of East D Street. Gunshots were reported in the early morning hours in the 400 block of South Birch Street. Officers heard what appeared to be fireworks in the 400 block of East D Street. A park curfew violation was reported in Memorial Park.

March 3: Canton Police Department received assistance with a vehicle complaint. A DARE class was taught at HES. A carbon monoxide alarm was activated in the 600 block of South Lincoln Street. Officers met with the sheriff and city inspector regarding a circus performance at Marion County Fairgrounds. A welfare check was conducted in the 600 block of East D Street. Newton Municipal Court received assistance. Skunks were reported on the fairgrounds. A suspicious person was reported in the 200 block of South Cedar Street.

Thursday: A non-compliant juvenile was reported in the 500 block of East Grand Avenue. Vandalism was reported in Memorial Park. An individual reported someone had damaged her vehicle while it was parked for two days in the park because of mechanical failure. An individual was fingerprinted for employment purposes. Hillsboro Fire Department received assistance with an electrical fire at Grand and Ash streets. An individual from Tucson reported an assault in the 300 block of North Ash Street but refused to cooperate with authorities. A suspicious vehicle was checked in the 300 block of North Ash Street. A noise complaint was reported in the 300 block of North Ash Street.

Friday: McPherson Police Department received assistance with an arrest warrant. Radio and phone equipment were checked at the weather-watch station. A 911 disconnect was checked in the 200 block of South Ash Street. A suspicious phone call was reported in the 900 block of South Ash Street. A noise complaint was filed in the 400 block of South Birch Street.

Saturday: A traffic complaint was reported in the 300 block of East D Street. McPherson County Sheriff’s Department received assistance with an investigation. Assistance was provided to Marion County Sheriff’s Department with a trespass complaint.
