Hillsboro police investigate another rape case

A female teen reported being raped in Hillsboro Jan. 11.
Hillsboro Police Chief Dan Kinning said that the lead suspect in the case is a 19-year-old acquaintance of the victim.
The case marks the sixth open rape case for Hillsboro police since December 2008.
Kinning said police are closer to bringing two of the cases to court and hope to wrap up the Jan. 2 crime in the next 30 days.
“It’s not dependent on DNA,” he said. “Both parties admit to the sexual act.”
The incident from Dec. 16 will probably be downgraded to sexual battery when the evidence is turned over to Marion County Attorney Susan Robson next week.
In both cases, Hillsboro police have witnesses.
“Times when it comes down to his word against hers are the toughest,” Kinning said.
