Marion High School sophomore Patrick Hodson recently was selected to participate in the Kansas State University College of Engineering Science and Summer Institute (ESSI), June 1-5.
The program is for high school students who have completed their sophomore or junior year and have a strong background in math and science.
Last year more than 75 students from four states attended.
The purpose of the institute is to offer high school students an opportunity to learn about engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, and math. Participants have a chance to explore nuclear energy and nanotechnology, work with a wind tunnel, and discuss sustainability and energy efficient designs.
Hodson is the son of Tonya Hodson and Don Hodson, both of Marion.
