Holub wins commission race

Election day was Tuesday, and preliminary results show incumbent Dan Holub winning the race for Marion County Commission District 2, defeating Gary D. Lewis.

Results won’t be final until Marion County Commission canvasses the election on Monday, but the preliminary tally was 1,048-781 in favor of Holub.

That commission race was the only contested contest at the county level. In the presidential race, Republicans Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan had the most votes in Marion County, with 3,865. Incumbent Democrats Barack Obama and Joe Biden had 1,371 votes; Libertarians Gary Johnson and James P. Gray, 80; and Reform Party candidates Chuck Baldwin and Joseph Martin, 52.

In the race for Kansas State Senate District 35, incumbent Republican Jay Scott Emler had the most Marion County votes, 3,655-1,378 over Libertarian Jesse Bryant.

Voter turnout was high, with 73 percent of Marion County’s 7,713 registered voters filling out a ballot.
