It was an easy victory Friday for the Centre Cougars as they battled White City in a winter homecoming game. Centre won, 54-40.

After a 4-0 lead by White City, the first quarter ended with Centre in control, 16-8. The Huskies added just three points in the second quarter. The Cougars added 11, including a last-second 3-pointer by Tyler Klenda, to double their lead at halftime, 27-11.

Centre continued to outpace White City, finishing with a 14-point victory.

The Cougars were 16-of-38 from 2-point range, 4-of-13 from 3-point range, and 10-of-17 at the free-throw line. Thirty-six rebounds, 11 assists, and 15 steals helped them win the game.

Trevor Troutt scored 16 points and rebounded the ball 10 times. Tanner Brunner scored 14 points and had nine rebounds. Brian Burhoop provided four assists. Alex Hajek and Rustyn Kerbs had four steals each.

The junior varsity won a close matchup, 39-37. Scorers were Casey Kristek, 10, Trevor Hageberg, 9, Mikael Antoszyk and James Wyatt, 8 each, and Justin Deines and Kordell Harding, 2 each.

Centre vs. Flint Hills Christian

The Cougars defeated Flint Hills Christian School in Manhattan Jan. 26, 61-30.

Centre led scoring every quarter — 10-6, 21-12, 12-4, and 18-8.

Troutt scored 17 points and Jacob Jirak scored 10. Jirak and Brunner had six rebounds and Burhoop provided three assists.

The junior varsity defeated Flint Hills, 26-17. Mikael Antoszyk scored 11 points, followed by Justin Deines with 10. James Wyatt grabbed three rebounds.

Boys defeat Solomon

In a home game Tuesday against Solomon, the Cougars won in an overtime thriller, 57-48.
