Pastor Gracepoint church
The church is not a holy afterthought.
The Body of Christ is not “plan B.”
Heaven did not scurry around in flustered panic when Jesus died on the cross, trying desperately to salvage God’s plan of salvation. There was no need for divine damage control, because things were proceeding just as planned. The beautiful fact is that the “church” was and still remains part of God’s loving purpose.
Jesus promised that the existence of the church would be because of His power and in line with an eternal purpose:
“ … I will build My church; and the gates of Hades shall not overpower it.” Matthew 16:18b
The church is not a temporary organization but a living, eternal being. Think about it — Jesus has been placed as the eternal head over the Body, which is His church Ephesians 5:22-23. And God is no fool — if the head is eternal then so is the body.
The church is so important to God that the Apostle Paul encourages church leaders to “shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.” Acts 20:28
Jesus did not die on the cross to redeem the building that sets on such and such a street. Instead He shed His blood to save people and join them together in His church for fellowship and worship Hebrews 10:25.
Praise God that the church is part of His beautiful plan. And praise Him that we can be a part of it. Are you?
