Hope in the Heartland

Pastor, Peabody Bible Church

Two separate paths led to two completely different rides.

One path led to a plastic “log” which would gently float down a waterway, be pulled up a steep hill, and then plunge down the other side — splashing into water at the bottom.

It’s called the American Plunge. It’s a water ride and it’s fun. It made people laugh.

The other pathway led to being strapped into metal cars that were hurdled down a rail — through loops and up and down hills at ungodly speeds.

It’s called Wildfire. It’s a roller coaster and it’s just wrong. It made people green.

My daughter wanted to go on the water ride, so I went with her. I have a picture above my desk as a reminder. Then she wanted to go on the roller coaster. So I did the only thing I could do — I talked my wife into going with her.

While they rode, my small son and I ate chips. When they got off the ride, it looked as though my wife and daughter were about to become ill.

Truthfully, there were no eternal consequences to either ride. It was an amusement park, after all. But life isn’t an amusement park, is it?

In Matthew 7:13-14, Jesus said there are two paths (gates) and the path that you choose will take you to one of only two destinations — one leads to life while the other leads to destruction.

Which one are you in line for?
