Life can be hard. It is expressed in the following, “Murphy’s Laws.”
- If anything can go wrong, it will.
- The other line always moves faster.
- The chance of the bread falling peanut butter and jelly side down is proportional to the cost of your carpet.
- Inside every large problem is a series of smaller problems struggling to get out.
- No matter how long or how hard you shop for something, as soon as you buy it, it will be on sale cheaper somewhere else.
- Any tool dropped while repairing a car will roll underneath to the exact center.
- The repairman will never have seen a model quite like yours before.
- Friends come and go, but enemies accumulate.
- Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes clear to the bone.
Can you relate? Hey, who said life was supposed to be easy? The issue isn’t whether or not we can avoid hardship (we can’t) but whether or not we can survive it (we can). Jesus said, “…in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33.
Hardship is standard equipment in this life; it comes with being born. The ability to overcome, however, comes with being born again. Depending on where you spend eternity, your forever will be either much better or much worse than whatever tribulation you encounter here.
Which would you prefer? Then don’t just be “in the world,” be “in Christ.”
