Sometimes truth is dispensed from surprising sources. It arrives with a vivid suddenness, becoming one of those “aha!” moments where things come together to make one unforgettable point. It’s always fun to find treasure when you’re not even looking for it.
It happened to me recently. The loaded truth that captured my attention was uttered by Horton the elephant. You know, the one who protected and defended all the Whos of Whoville. The perilous pachyderm uttered one of the most important lines of all time when he said, “A person’s a person, no matter how small.”
No, I don’t turn to Dr. Seuss for my theology, but I’m always glad to celebrate truth when I recognize it. And, friends, Horton nailed it.
No human being is insignificant. Every human life, born or unborn, has automatic and unchangeable value, simply because they are a person created and loved by an awesome God. Your worth isn’t something to be achieved, nor can it be lost. Your significance isn’t based on your physical appearance, financial standing or mental abilities. There is sanctity and mankind can’t take it away. You are a unique being created by a loving Creator. You are a masterpiece no matter what.
