“I’m getting you that for Christmas.” Announced my 8-year-old daughter, Jayne, as she pointed to something at the store.
“Honey,” I said, “if you want to surprise me, you shouldn’t show me the present before Christmas, because now I know what it is.”
My goal was to help my daughter understand the joy of surprising someone with an unexpected gift. It seemed to be a real “hallmark” moment until she added:
“I’m not worried, dad, you’ll forget by Christmas.”
A comical family memory was born that will be recalled often, at least by those who remember.
The biggest obstacle to being thankful is our forgetfulness.
We may be grateful for what God has done, but do we remember why God has shown His love to the world?
The answer is uncomplicated. God wants us to be saved. He desires that we accept the gift of salvation found in His greatest gift, Jesus Christ.
The Bible says: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son…” The first part of that verse gives us the what God gave us. But listen to the why: “…that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.”
We show our gratefulness for God’s gift of Jesus Christ by accepting Him as our Savior. Have you done that?
