Hospital remains in the black despite slow month

Even though revenues were down in August, St. Luke Hospital remains in the black.

That was the news the board of directors of Marion County Hospital District #1 heard Thursday.

Inpatient revenue was down more than 14 percent from July but still ahead of budget by more than 18 percent. However, revenue was $40,862 less than a year ago at this time.

Outpatient revenues were ahead of budget for the month by $61,818, but down from July by $132,649. Revenues remained ahead of last year by $941,385 or 20 percent.

St. Luke Physician Clinic revenue was down from July by $2,243.

The living center revenue remained ahead of the year-to-date budget. Home health revenue was up from July by $3,198 and slightly ahead of budget for the year.

The overall net income from operations was in the red nearly $200,000 for the month of August. Compared to last year-to-date, income from operations was ahead by $251,982.

Net income for the month was a negative $103,784 but year-to-date net income was $186,883. Compared with last year-to-date, net income was ahead by $249,308.

Inpatient days were down 11 and swing bed days were up nine from July. Acute and swing bed days were behind last year by 20 and 46 days, respectively.

There were 10 more home health visits in August than in July and an increase of 582 visits for the year.

The living center remained near capacity in August.

Laboratory procedures were down 12.72 percent or 409 procedures from July, but year-to-date procedures were up by 14.99 percent.

Radiology scans were down 125 from July, but year-to-date scans were 28.34 percent more than in 2007.

Physical therapy visits also decreased by 14.20 percent or 159 visits. For the year, visits are in the black by nearly three percent.

St. Luke Physician Clinic remained stable in August with 261 visits.
