Still accepting donations

St. Luke Hospital has surpassed the $1 million mark in its fundraising efforts. To date, more than $1,006,000 has been raised.

Donations and pledges began in November and have continued for nearly a year. The goal is $1.25 million, which will provide additional enhancements to the hospital’s renovation project.

St. Luke Hospital employees began the drive with pledges of more than $108,000. In June, the hospital was awarded $250,000 in tax credits; about $78,000 remains available.

The $6 million renovation project includes an addition to the physical therapy department and improvements to the emergency room and operating room.

“When we began we knew residents would be generous because that is how this county operates,” St. Luke Foundation Director Mike Norris said.

“But the level of commitment from residents to their hospital has been more than generous. It’s been above and beyond.”

In September 2009, a Campaign Steering Committee was formed to assist in fundraising efforts with Judy Reno as chairman.

“To me, this million dollar mark tells everyone the capabilities of Marion, if we set our minds to it,” Reno said. “What potential this community has.”

Donations will continue to be accepted through the foundation.

“Our goal is to keep the foundation a viable, continuous entity,” Norris said.
