Irene M. Nienstedt

Irene M. Nienstedt, 104, of South Hutchinson died May 21, 2012, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. She was a longtime resident of Florence, but had lived in the care of her daughter for the past five years.

She was born July 2, 1907, in rural Florence to G.F. and Mary (Meirowsky) Waner. She graduated from Florence High School in 1925. She married Frank Nienstedt on Nov. 11, 1930. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; a son, Leland; a great-grandson, Matthew Harmony; and four siblings, Opal Boeck, Lawrence, Virgil, and George Waner.

She is survived by her daughter, Jean Soper of South Hutchinson; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Nienstedt of Goddard; eight grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Services are today at Holy Family Parish, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Florence. The Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. with funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Florence.

A memorial fund has been established for Hospice and Homecare of Reno County in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, PO Box 6, Marion, KS 66861.
