Jack Loomis

Jack LeRoy Loomis, age 55, of Beloit and Ionia, died Aug. 15 at his trailer house on the family farm in Ionia.

He was born Oct. 2, 1954, in the Community Hospital in Beloit. Jack was the son of John and Cleo Loomis.

Jack lived his entire life in Kansas. He moved with his family from Ionia to Marion in 1963. During his school years, he was an outstanding student, a participant in many school activities, and was an outstanding high school track athlete, winning many state championship medals.

Following high school, he attended Kansas State University and participated on the KSU track team.

He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Jack was a farmer and stockman. He especially enjoyed working with and managing his beef cattle herd. He operated the family farm for many years until health problems limited his capacity to perform the farming operation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Cleo Loomis; his brother, Gerry; and brother-in-law Eldon Hollern.

Survivors include his sister, Donna Hollern, of Columbus; two brothers, Larry Loomis and wife Randee, of Manhattan, and Jim Loomis and wife Kay, of Wichita; nieces and nephews and their children.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 18 at Kleppinger Funeral Home, 409 Broadway St., Jewell.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ionia United Methodist Church, followed by burial in the Ionia Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Marion High School Hall of Fame Memorial.
