Jammin' Biscuits to play at Florence Spring Fling
Jammin’ Biscuits will be performing April 25 at Florence’s Spring Fling, in the gym on Dean Street, Florence.
Gerry and Tracey Roberts of Moundridge and Tom Unruh of Sedgwick formed the group in 2008.
Gerry’s love for music started at the age of 10 when he taught himself to play the guitar. He was lead guitarist for a rock band in high school. He spent 20 years singing in southern gospel quartets — The Lamplighters and Testimony. He realized his love for the acoustic sound of bluegrass when he and his wife, Tracey, started playing and singing together in 2005.
Gerry learned to play the mandolin in 2007 and followed up learning the stand-up bass and banjo.
Unruh played mostly western music with The Salt Plains Drifters before he helped form Jammin’ Biscuits. He is a true music enthusiast — especially for the message found in bluegrass gospel.
Other members of the group are Nick Johnson, Gary Roberts, and Lawrence Ressler.
The performance will start at 5:15 p.m. Other events are children’s games at 3 p.m., meal at 4:30 p.m., and a cake auction at 6:15 p.m. Cost is by donation.
The public may purchase tickets for a chance to win a KSU basketball autographed by Frank Martin and a kid’s Extreme X-140, 140 watt electric scooter valued at $199. Tickets can be purchased at Cottonwood Valley Bank in Florence and Marion Dry Cleaning and Laundry and Marion County Record in Marion. Need not be present to win. Winners will be notified.
All proceeds fund Florence’s annual Labor Day celebration.
