IN MEMORIAM:   Jane Matthews

Jane Matthews passed away March 26, 2017, at the age of 92 in Greeley, Colorado.

She was born Sept. 21, 1924, to Joseph and Emma Eldora Buckles in Kansas City, Kansas. She married Glenn Matthews, a Marion native and love of her life, on August 23, 1942.

Jane graduated from Southwestern College, Winfield, Kansas with a Bachelors degree in education. Her passion in life was teaching kindergarten in Kansas and Long Island, New York. Jane and Glenn retired to Delray Beach, Florida, their boat on Lake Champlain in New York, and Marion, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by a son, James Wesley Matthews, husband, Glenn Wesley Matthews, and daughter Dr. Susan M. Clark.

Survivors include a daughter, Julie Lynne Harvey and husband, Kent, of Windsor, Colorado; son-in-law Bruce Clark of Derby, Kansas; granddaughter, Casandra Jane Clark of Wichita, Kansas; grandson, Ryan Matthews Clark of Wichita, Kansas; granddaughter, Emily Jane Furlan and husband, Jarred, of Greeley, Colorado; grandson, Wesley Kent Harvey of Owensboro, Kentucky; and great-grandson, Matthew Harvey Furlan of Greeley, Colorado.

Her memorial celebration will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Valley United Methodist Church, Marion, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, Jane has established a memorial education fund to assist those in the teaching profession with their educational costs. Through their passion of teaching others, Jane’s legacy and love of education will continue to influence and shape young minds. Please make donations payable to the Jane Matthews Educational Fund.
