Jim Beisel

Services for James David Beisel, 76, who died Saturday at Newton Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Peabody Christian Church.

The Rev. James Pohlman will officiate. Military committal will follow at 4 p.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington. Visitation will be 5 to 7 tonight at Zeiner Funeral Home, Herington.

A 1959 graduate of Herington High School, he served in the Air Force for 20 years, retiring in 1979, then going on to work as a Boeing machinist, a police officer, and an owner of West Walnut Market in Herington.

He married Shirley Elaine Pearson on Aug. 30, 1987, in Greenville, Mississippi.

She survives at the couple’s home in Peabody.

Other survivors include children Karie Kahrl of Flower Mound, Texas; Tony Coppock of Collinsville, Texas; James Beisel Jr. of Oklahoma City; Rynie Beisel of Edmond, Oklahoma; Darin Schlesener of Hope; Dena Hall of Colwich; and Curtis Schlesener of Herington.

Also surviving are brother Jack Beisel of Herington, 19 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Brothers Jerry and Gus Beisel preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established with the Peabody-Burns special education program.
