IN MEMORIAM:   Joan Stroda

Joan M. Stroda, 84, Wichita, passed away July 27 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Mass of Christian Burial was Aug. 1 at St. Phillip’s Catholic Church in Hope, Kansas with Father Mark Wesely and Father Soosai Rathinam as concelebrants.

A parish rosary was at 7 p.m. July 31 at St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church in Herington with family receiving friends afterwards.

Joan was born May 30, 1931, in Pilsen, the daughter of Henry and Lillian (Holub) Jirak.

She grew into womanhood in the Pilsen area before marrying Clarence Stroda on Oct. 3, 1950, in Pilsen.

She was a member of St. Phillip’s Catholic Church in Hope, where she was a member of the Altar Society, and taught religious education. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, growing flowers, fishing, and traveling to the mountains.

Joan was preceded in death by her son-in-law, David MacDonald, brothers Sylvan and Marion Jirak, and her parents.

She is survived by her loving husband, Clarence; daughter Patricia MacDonald of Wichita; her sons Greg and Theresa Stroda of Chapman, Robert Stroda and his significant other TeCoa Seibert of Chapman, Mark and Rachel Stroda of Yellow Tail, Montana, Gary and Connie Stroda of Hope; sisters Millie Vinduska of Pilsen, Rita Molner of Seattle, Verna and Eugene Vinduska of Pilsen, and Gemma and Ed Davies of Marion; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Her final resting place is in St. Phillip’s Catholic Cemetery, Hope.
