John C. Padgett, 71, of Florence, died Aug. 15 at his home.

He was born July 4, 1939, near Newton, to Curtis and Elizabeth (Gronau) Padgett. The family moved to Florence when he was 4 years old.

On June 5, 1960, John married Joyce Berends at Cedar Valley Baptist Church near Clements. She survives.

He was a farmer and rancher.

His parents and a son, Steven, preceded him in death.

Other survivors include two sons, James of Florence and Mike of Hillsboro; a daughter, Pat Wilson of Mulvane; a brother, Bill of Flat Rock, N.C.; four sisters, Betty Ireland of Florence, Mary Alice Shilcutt of Issaquah, Wash., Mildred Hamm of Tampa, and Edna Mae Malmgren of Overland Park; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Zeiner Funeral Home in Florence. Visitation will be 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence.
