Josephine Lagergren

Josephine Greenemeyer Lagergren, age 87, died Dec. 19, 2009, in Oklahoma City.

Born June 11, 1922, in Marion, she was the daughter of Joe B. and Lydia Hein.

On Dec. 3, 1939, she was married to Leland Greenemeyer. They were blessed with one son, Stephen Lee, of Edmond, Okla.

Together they owned and operated Lee’s Grill on Main Street in Marion for 26 years. Lee passed away in 1987.

In 1991, Jo married Fred Lagergren and they moved to Green Valley, Ariz., for health reasons. She loved the Arizona sunshine, desert plants, flowers, and also learned and loved the game of golf late in life. They moved to Edmond in 2002 to be closer to their families, and she enjoyed an active lifestyle. She took pleasure in golfing with a ladies’ group at the Hefner Golf Club, and she was a member of the Red Hat Society.

Fred and Jo frequently attended dances and played cards at various community centers.

Jo had been a member of Valley Methodist Church of Marion since 1954 and transferred her membership in 2003 to Quail Springs Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. She had been a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 6958 since 1959 and American Legion since 1990.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Gladys Kline and Frances Sanders; brothers Harold and Harvey Hein; and her first husband, Lee Greenemeyer.

Jo is survived by her husband, Fred, of the home; her brother, LaVerne Hein of Wichita; son Steve Greenemeyer and wife Patty; granddaughters Briana Greenemeyer and Kyle and Cory Painton; and grandson Chris and Cattima Rabjohn of Edmond.

In addition, she is survived by Fred’s children, Nancy and Jim Grueter of Wharton, N.J., Ralph and Dawn Lagergren of Newton, and Joan and Russ Bowman of Phillipsburg; grandchildren Amanda and Carlos Munoz, Chance, Chantel, and Syndey Lagergren and Audrey, Austin, and Adam Bowman; great-grandchildren Chae-lee and Aidyn Lagergren; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Viewing will be at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion. Call the funeral home at (620) 382-2112 for viewing times.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 30 at Valley Methodist Church.
