Joyce E. Daugherty

Joyce E. Daugherty, 79, died Dec. 13, 2011, in Marion.

She was born July 5, 1932, in Latimer to Harry H. and Elva M. (Adam) Langhofer. She was a homemaker and a buyer for Briggs-Weaver Inc. in Houston for many years.

She was a member of First Church of God and was the church organist. She was a member of White City Order of the Eastern Star and held numerous offices. She graduated from Herington High School in 1950.

She married William B. Daugherty on Aug. 24, 1950. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1978. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa “Terry” Burnett, on Nov. 6, 1990; a brother, Charles Langhofer, on Sept. 8, 1999; and her parents.

She is survived by two daughters, Glenda Smithwick of Herington and Denise Evans of Marion; four brothers, DeVern Langhofer, Delphos Langhofer, Wayne Langhofer, and Gavin Langhofer, all of Herington; a sister, Ima Jean Wrightson of Waynesville, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A funeral was Friday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel, with the Rev. Glenn Raw officiating. The family received friends Thursday at the funeral home. Burial was in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington.
