June declared dairy month in Kansas

Marion County has several dairy farmers including Jason Wiebe Dairy near Durham that produces cheese, this month was declared national dairy month to honor dairy farmers like Wiebe for their hard work.

According to the Kansas Department of Agriculture, the Kansas dairy industry is experience one of the fastest growth rates in the nation in 2013 and produces more than $592 million dollars worth of product.

Currently there are more than 300 dairy farms in Kansas that produce 336 million gallons of milk annually, KDA said.

To celebrate, a Dairy Month Celebration will be held at Hildebrand Farms Dairy near Junction City, Kansas.
