Just call me 'Lucky'

Good luck. It’s a simple thing, really. We say it all of the time.

“Good luck in the game.” “Good luck with the project.” “Good luck in the election.”

However, I don’t have much good luck.

The saying, “If it wasn’t for bad luck I wouldn’t have any luck at all” was written for me.

I also am of the belief, we make our own “luck.” We can’t sit and wait for the world to come to us or solutions be presented to us on a silver platter but just once I would like to win the lottery. It wouldn’t have to be the big jackpot of millions but a few thousand would be nice.

Ah, lady luck.

I’m the first one done at the slot machines.

I’m the one driving the speed limit because, well, you get the picture.

I’m the nervous wreck about to decorate a cake for a special occasion. Shoot, I probably shouldn’t even be around a cake during the special occasion.

I’m the one who fumbles around in the closet, looking for a pair of shoes, only to go to work wearing two miss-matched shoes. (Funny, no one noticed.)

I’m the one who goes to the beauty shop on the day that it rains. Hard.

Speaking of hair, I’m the one who puts out the dog before going to work, and the dog doesn’t want to go in the rain to do her business. So, I’m in the rain with her, coaxing her to get the job done. That’s me! The one with the wet hair.

I’m the one who walks across the room in her robe and wet hair only to have someone, usually important, ringing the front door.

I’m the one at the Kansas Sampler Festival in Ottawa several years ago, who bent down to pick up something only to have my hair catch on fire from a candle at another booth! Too much hair spray, I guess.

I’m the one who walked into the men’s bathroom at a department store, obviously by mistake. The only witness was a smiling man in a wheelchair who was sitting by the women’s door, which confused me in the first place.

Yep, that’s me. The one with the rabbits’ feet and four-leaf clovers.

Actually, I don’t have those lucky charms. Hmmm. Maybe I should.
