LETTERS:   Kassebaum endorses

To the editor:

I know what it takes to be a good public servant. That is why I am joining former Gov. Bill Graves, former Secretaries of State Jack Brier and Ron Thornburgh, and nine past chairs of the Kansas Republican Party in supporting Elizabeth “Libby” Ensley for Kansas secretary of state.

We must elect someone with the experience, leadership, and integrity necessary to ensure that our elections are safe and secure.

She has served as Shawnee County election commissioner for the last 18 years and prior to that worked in the secretary of state’s office for 11 years.

Libby rooted out and helped convict a dozen election crimes. You can count on her to be just as vigilant as your secretary of state. She is the candidate who can serve Kansas taxpayers with integrity.

One of her opponents is entangled in a Federal Election Commission investigation over alleged misappropriations of money and his mismanagement of our state party.

Her other opponent is trying to buy the election with his personal wealth, telling the Kansas City Star that he is going to dump $300,000 of his own money into the race. This is simply unacceptable. Kansas deserves better from its elected officials.

Our elections are not for sale — not now, not ever. I hope you will join me in supporting Elizabeth “Libby” Ensley for Kansas Secretary of State.
