KDHE clears Marion County Lake for all activities

Kansas Department of Health and Environment announced Friday that a public health advisory for Marion County Lake because of toxic blue-green algae had been lifted.

A test conducted Sept. 26 determined algae concentrations were safe for water contact. However, the swimming beach at the lake had already been closed for fall. The lake is open for boating, fishing, and personal watercraft.

While the health advisory has been lifted, since the test was conducted another algae bloom has developed, Marion County Environmental Health Director Tonya Richards said Friday. If the beach hadn’t already been closed for the season, she said she would have recommended keeping it closed voluntarily because of the new bloom.
