Ken Goertzen

Ken Goertzen, 79, of Aurora, Neb., died Dec. 18 at Hamilton Manor in Aurora. He was born Aug. 27, 1934, in Hampton, Neb., to Isaac and Estalene (Unruh) Goertzen.

He graduated from Henderson High School and attended Tabor College for one year. He married Laura Suderman on June 5, 1956, in Hillsboro. They made their home and farmed near Henderson, Neb.

They moved to rural Aurora in 1965 and moved into Auroroa in 1987. They also spent winters in Mesa, Ariz., for 14 years.

He served as a deacon and taught Sunday school, volunteered at the Christian Resource Center at Giltner, Neb., and was involved with the Corn Growers Association, Husker Harvest Days, and the Edgerton Explorit Center.

He is survived by his wife, Laura of Aurora; three children, Donovan Goertzen of Minneapolis, Minn., Valerie Friesen of Lincoln, Neb., and Rick Goertzen of Aurora; two brothers, Donald L. Goertzen and Ardean Goertzen, both of Lincoln; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service was Dec. 21 at Monroe Evangelical Free Church near Murphy, Neb. Interment was before the service at the Mennonite Brethren Cemetery north of Henderson. Visitation was Dec. 20 at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora.

A memorial fund has been established with the Christian Resource Center.
