Klenda memorial

To the Editor:

I want to express my thankfulness for a blessed and patriotic tribute for the homecoming of my brother, Major Dean A. Klenda, on Sept. 17.

It was blessed due to the beautiful mass and homily of Father Darrin May. I also thank all the members of St. John Nepomucene Church of Pilsen who assisted with the service.

Melissa Makovec went above and beyond in preparing a wonderful meal and patriotic decorations after the service.

We appreciate the honors fulfilled by the Air Force Honor Guard from McConnell Air Force Base who met the plane in Kansas City and brought Dean home. They also bestowed the honors at the funeral mass and cemetery including the 21-gun salute and taps.

The Missing Man flyover by the 125th Fighter Squadron of the Oklahoma Air National Guard was the ultimate tribute to a fellow pilot.

I want to acknowledge the Kansas American Legion Riders who provided the Avenue of Flags throughout the day. It was beautiful and heartwarming.

I especially appreciate the numerous friends, family members and community members who came from near and far to help with the service, including the members of the VFW at the cemetery.

Zeiner Funeral Home did a wonderful job along with Allen Cronin of Air Force Mortuary of Dover, Maryland, with all the many arrangements for Dean’s service and making it a very special day.

I am truly grateful for the love shown on Dean’s behalf and on the family’s behalf.

Thank you, he is home.
