Know before you go on summer trips

With summer travel season in full swing, Kansas Department of Transportation offers planning and decision-making tools to assist travelers.

The services are free and available anytime travelers need them.

Summer is the height of road construction projects and by planning ahead and visiting http://www.kandrive.org or dialing 511 on any phone or mobile device, travelers can find out if their routes are affected by road work and if other plans are needed. Weather updates also are provided every 15 minutes on Kansas 511.

Snapshots of roadways are updated every few minutes from closed-circuit cameras installed along I-70 and other highways within the state.

KanDrive also provides an interactive map of Kansas roads, road conditions and work zones.

The 511 mobile site at http://511mm.ksdot.org is accessible from iPhones, Droids, and Windows mobile devices, version 6.0 and higher.

Travelers may call 511 from any phone in Kansas or 1 (866) 511-5368 from anywhere in the U.S. before traveling or as they travel to find out about the latest driving conditions, work zones, and travel weather information for the Kansas turnpike and any interstate, U.S., or state highway in Kansas and Nebraska.
