At Wamego’s cross country meet Friday, Marion’s Dylan Kraus took home gold in the Class 3-2-1A race and set a school record in the girls’ 5-kilometer with a time of 19 minutes 30.27 seconds.

“She looked strong and determined,” coach Jason Hett said. “For her first time on this course, she ran a pretty smart race, using the down hills to create some gap with her competition.”

For Kraus, the regular season meet served as good practice, as Wamego also is where the state championship will be determined.

Overall, the Warriors placed sixth among girls’ teams and fourth among boys’ teams.

Among girls, Jessica Methvin finished 41st; Allyson Vogel, 45th; Brooklyn Beery, 51st; and Izy Branson, 79th.

“This is a very large meet, and our girls showed up and proved they are going to be a force to battle with this season,” Hett said.

On the boys’ side, three of the Warriors’ runners medaled. Leading the way was Landon Levis in 11th place, Zayden Janzen in 17th, and Josh Smith in 18th.

Along with Hillsboro and Centre, Marion will travel Thursday to Herington for its next meet.

Goessel

Four girls on Goessel’s cross country team finished in the top 20 Thursday at Hesston.

Rosie Gaeddert led the team, finishing in sixth place. Moriah Guhr placed 15th, and Madilyn Olson came in 16th in the junior class event. Mia Hiebert claimed 14th place during the freshman race.

Eli Gaeddert ran in the Olathe Twilight meet Saturday and finished 27th out of 167 runners in his division. His time was 16:17.50.

The Bluebirds will run again Thursday at Bennington.

Hillsboro

The Trojans also traveled to Wamego, and Riley Richert led the girls’ team with an eighth-place finish Friday.

On the boys’ side, Ethan Rempel led the team with a 38th-place finish. Silas Signley finished 66th, and Adalynn Winter finished 77th.

Hillsboro’s next meet will be Thursday
at Herington.
