After a triangular Sept. 20 at Wakefield and an invitational tournament Saturday at Herington, the Centre High School volleyball team ended the week with a record of 10-11.
They split games at the triangular and took fourth place in the tournament.
In the first match at Wakefield, Peabody defeated Centre in three games. Centre won the first game, 25-16, but lost the next two, 25-18 and 25-16.
Beka Basore was awesome at the net, going 17-of-17 on spikes including six kills. She also had five blocks.
Cacey Simons served for 9 points, all in the first game. Genesis Rudolph and Shelby Makovec were perfect in setting, with 29-of-29 and 24-of-24, respectively.
Centre defeated Wakefield handily, 25-7 and 25-11. Rudolph served for 9 points. Anna Weber was a perfect 8-of-8 in spikes including four kills. Basore was 6-of-6, with five kills and two blocks.
The junior varsity also split matches, defeating Peabody, 25-14 and 25-18, and losing to Wakefield, 25-18 and 25-21.
Herington Invitational
Centre advanced out of pool play, 2-1, at the Herington Invitational.
In the first match, White City defeated Centre in three games — 21-25, 25-20, and 25-22.
With perfect setting from Rudolph and Makovec, Brianna Svoboda led at the net with 18-of-21 spikes, five kills, and one block.
Centre defeated Wakefield handily in the second match, 25-5 and 25-7. Simons served for 12 points and Carrie Carlson for 8.
Once again, Rudolph and Makovec had perfect settings. Weber completed 15-of-17 spikes including 8 kills.
Centre went on to defeat Sunrise, 25-18 and 25-17. Makovec served for 8 points. Weber was 11-of-11 at the net for two kills.
Centre faced Council Grove in the semifinals and was defeated, 25-21, in both games. The team was a perfect 43-of-43 in serves. Shields served for 8 points. Makovec was 14-of-14 in setting. Weber completed 16-of-19 spikes, and Basore had three blocks.
The Lady Cougars had a rematch with Sunrise for third place. This time, Sunrise won, 25-22 and 25-18.
Shields served for 5 points including one ace. Rudolph and Makovec were perfect in setting. Weber was 13-of-14 at the net including one kill. She also had one block. Basore was 8-of-8 with two blocks.
