CENTRE:   Lady Cougars finish 1-1 in league play

In the first two league games of the regular season, Centre High School girls varsity defeated White City Dec. 15, 32-17, and lost to Wakefield Friday, 46-36. Both games were played on the road.

Carlye Simons scored half of the team’s points against White City on three 2-point field goals, one 3-point field goal, and 7-of-8 free throws.

Centre had a two-point lead at halftime. White City failed to score in the third quarter, while Centre added 10 points. After a 5-3 fourth quarter, Centre finished the game with a 14-point victory.

Allison Shields scored 7 points, Shelby Deines 6, Ripley Howard 2, and Josie Peterson 1.

The junior varsity was defeated, 16-9. Scorers were Theo Kassebaum, 3; Ellie Miller and Beka Basore, 2 each; and Genesis Rudolph and Anna Weber, 1 each.

Centre vs. Wakefield

A big 17-point second quarter by Wakefield made the difference in the Lady Cougars’ 10-point loss. Centre scored seven points in the quarter and trailed, 24-12, at halftime. Although scoring by the two teams was almost even in the second half, the Lady Cougars could not catch up.

The only Centre player in double digits was Carlye Simons. She accumulated 13 points before fouling out. DJ Turner scored 7 points, Howard 6, Deines 5, Shields 4, and Samantha Seifert 1.

The junior varsity was defeated, 25-21. Neither team scored in the first quarter. Centre led 9-6 at halftime but was outscored 19-12 in the second half to lose by four points.

Scorers were Weber, 5; Miller, 4; Rudolph, Basore, and Kassebaum, 3 each; Mikayla Antoszyk, 2; and Amanda Floyd, 1.
