CENTRE:   Lady Cougars have a rough start

Centre High School varsity volleyball team was pitted against larger schools in its home opener, Sept 1. The girls lost all three matches against Canton-Galva, Wichita Home School, and Inman.

The team won its first game with Canton Galva, 25-14, but lost the next two, 14-25, and 13-25. D.J. Turner was leading server, scoring nine points. Carlye Simons led at the net, with 14-of-16 spikes and two kills. Allison Shields delivered 8-of-11 spikes, four kills, and one block.

Against Wichita Home School, the team lost two games, 14-25 and 16-25, after winning the first game, 25-20. Turner again was leading server, scoring eight points. Simons and Shields led at the net and Tori Marler was leading setter.

Inman swamped the team in two games with scores of 4-25 and 9-25. Most of Centre’s points were rally points. Simons delivered 8-of-8 spikes and two kills. Marler set 9-of-11 balls, two resulting in kills.

With a record of 0-3, the Lady Cougars hope to get their first victory in the upcoming match.
