Staff writer

The Centre volleyball team finished 1-2 at a quadrangular meet Aug. 31 at Canton-Galva. It was their first meet of the season.

The Lady Cougars defeated Wichita Home School in three games, 25-22, 19-25, and 25-23, and lost to Canton Galva, 18-25 and 14-25, and Inman, 9-25 and 15-25.

Senior Allison Shields was leading server for the meet, delivering 11 balls resulting in scores. Freshman Bryanna Svoboda followed her, with 10. Svoboda also delivered four individual aces.

Svoboda completed 31 of 36 spike attempts and delivered 12 kills. Shields completed 28 of 38 and delivered 10 kills.

Anna Weber had four blocks.

Coach Yvonne Burhoop said this first meet gave her a positive outlook on the future of CHS volleyball.

“At one point, there were five freshmen and sophomores on the floor,” she said. “They got some great experience. I think we have a lot of potential.”

The junior varsity defeated Canton-Galva and lost to Inman.

Centre traveled to Elyria Christian Tuesday and will play at Hope Tuesday.
