CENTRE:   Lady Cougars win 1, lose 1 at St. Xavier

Centre finished 1-1 in a triangular Sept. 15 at St. Xavier.

Centre was defeated by Elyria in the first match, 25-19, 21-25, and 18-25.

Shelby Deines served for 13 points including three aces. Other scorers were Tori Marler, 5; Anna Weber, 6; Allison Shields, 5; and Carlye Simons, 3.

Netters were almost 100 percent in spiking. Simons and Shields led the way, with 15-of-16 and 15-of-17, respectively. Shields contributed five kills and Weber had four blocks.

Centre defeated St. Xavier, 25-9 and 25-11. Weber scored 10 points, and Marler and Shields scored seven points each, including a combined seven aces.

Shields completed 8-of-10 spike attempts at the net, with three kills; Ellie Miller was 5-of-6 with one kill; and Simons was 4-of-5 with three kills.

Centre at Marion

The Lady Cougars were three-and-out Saturday at the Marion Invitational Tournament. They failed to win a game.

Seeded last, they played top-seeded Collegiate in the first match, losing 1-25 and 8-25. They played well despite being unable to score many points.

The girls couldn’t seem to get it together in the next two matches. They lost to Sedgwick, 7-25 and 8-25, and to DeSoto, 19-25 and 10-25.ce ers anee strengthens the community.

Following the tournament, their record was 3-10.
