Centre USD facilities hit

A hailstorm accompanied by strong, northwest winds swept across the county Sunday evening following record-breaking temperatures in the upper 80s. The worst of the storm seems to have been in the Lincolnville area, where golf-ball-size hail and larger was reported west and north of town.

Mayor Barb Kaiser said hail up to the size of a half dollar fell in town but no damage was reported.

David Rudolph’s home at 3015 Timber Road northwest of Lincolnville was reported to have sustained broken windows on the north side of the second floor. Skylights in a machine shed also were broken.

Two miles farther north, at the home of Alex and Jean Stuchlik, 2045 320th Road, large hail reportedly tore through the screen on an open upper-story north window and flew across the room. Another screen and several windowpanes were broken.

Robin Pritz lives three miles north and one-half mile west of Lincolnville on Vista Road. She reported a windshield broken on a vehicle.

North windows were broken on the home of Ross and Megan Stuchlik, six miles south of Ramona.

Centre USD facilities also sustained damage. The large hail knocked out windows on the north side, punched holes in the top of the greenhouse, and pitted several district-owned vehicles and the siding on the north side of the district office.

According to Sheriff Robert Craft, interim emergency management director for Marion County, wind gusts as high as 60 mph were clocked in the area.

The Army Corps of Engineers at Marion Reservoir recorded .43 of an inch of rain Sunday evening. After a high temperature of 87 degrees, the temperature had dropped to 52 degrees by 8 p.m.
