Larry Lago

Larry Lynn Lago, 70, of Peabody, Kansas, passed away on March 19, 2017, at Via Christi - St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas.

Born at home July 4, 1946, to Lena Elizabeth “Patricia” Muninger and William Albert Lago in Madison, Kansas, he was one of 10 children.

Brothers Jerry Lago and Donald Tannahill, and sister Patricia Tannahill Bevan preceded him in death.

Surviving siblings include Wilbert Albert Lago and wife, Barbara, of Modesto, California, Donna Lago Hague and husband, Rod, of Peabody, Kansas, Jean Tannahill Heggemier of Odessa, Texas, Ginger Tannahill Bevan and husband, Lee, of El Dorado, Kansas, Sue Tannahill Choal and husband, Gaylord, of Reliance, South Dakota, and Rita Jo Tannahill Voss and husband, Walt, of Henderson, Nevada.

Lago primarily lived in Kansas and California. In Kansas, the family lived on farms in Madison, Viola, and Oil Hill while his dad worked for Sauder Tank Company and had his own potato farm.

After a tornado in 1954, the family packed up eight kids, one dog, and a sewing machine in the trunk of the ’49 Chevy and headed west to California, where Larry ultimately developed a landscaping business with his brother Bill. During the Vietnam War, Lago was stationed in Nevada and served in the U.S. Air Force as a mechanic.

He married Linda Sue Haury of California on Jan. 22, 1966, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They had four children together.

That marriage ended with the death of Linda on March 24, 2004.

He married Stephanie Ax on Dec. 13, 2014.

In his lifetime, Larry became an accomplished landscaper, mechanic, plumber, electrician, carpenter, roofer, painter, remodeler, and beloved handy-man worth his weight in gold. He was truly an artist with any task he chose to undertake. He is well known in the community and will be greatly missed by the many people who have depended upon him.

Larry worked at multiple locations in his lifetime. He officially retired in mid-2015 from his part-time job as a driver for handicapped children with USD 375 Circle school district. His favorite pastimes were his chickens, puppies, word search puzzles, coffee at the local coffee shop each morning with his many friends, and having time for his family.

Larry and Stephanie had anticipated joint art projects and traveling since her retirement at the end of 2016.

He was preceded in death by brother-in-law Bill Heggemier of Odessa, Texas.

He is survived by his wife Stephanie of the home; children Michelle Lago Tuschhoff and husband, Ray, of Andover, Brian Neil Lago and wife, Camille, of Whitewater, Melissa Sue Lakin and husband, Willie, of Leon, and Barry Eugene Lago of Colorado; grandchildren Omar Samy, Sam Tuschhoff and wife, Becca, John Tuschhoff, Raychele Tuschhoff, Aaron Tuschhoff, Larry Lago and wife, Amber, Ashley Johnson and husband, Adrian, Josh Lago, Justin Lago, Kasey Lago, Trent Worrell, Kassie Divine, Jessica Ann Lago Horton, Brittany Lago, and Brooke Lago; great-grandchildren Connor, Mackensie, Gavin, Keyauna, Samiya, Aiden, Rilee, J.
