Laura Rosella (Ewert) Slocombe, 96, of Peabody, died Nov. 25.

Born on a farm west of Aulne, to Albert and Anna (Welsh) Ewert, the family later moved to a farm west of Peabody.

Laura attended school in Peabody, graduating in 1932. She was a member of Peabody First United Methodist Church all her life.

She married Vernon Slocombe in 1933in an outdoor wedding at her parents’ farm.

In 1963, Vernon and Laura moved to Peabody.

Her husband, Vernon, died in 2001. Her sister, Edna Mae Ewert, and three brothers, John, Ralph, and Harold, also preceded her.

Survivors include two sons, Ed of New Braunfels, Texas, and Warren of Manhattan; a daughter, Elaine Sears of Abilene; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday at First United Methodist Church, Peabody.
