LaVerna O. Miller, 97, of Herington died March 5 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born Oct. 25, 1915, to J. Edwin and Esther S. (Peterson) Carlson at the family home near Burdick.

She was a homemaker and was involved with her church circle. She graduated from Diamond Valley High School, Burdick, in 1933.

She married Harry W. Miller on Jan. 4, 1939, at Delavan. He preceded her in death in 2005. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Geneva Dunham.

She is survived by four daughters, Doris Can of Little Rock, Ark., Delores Fisher, Carol Riffel of Herington, and Phyllis Haefner of Buffalo, Okla.; two sisters, Winona Burt and Beulah Ahrendes of Salina; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral service was Saturday at Hebron Lutheran Church, Burdick, with Pastor Bill Peterson officiating. Burial followed at Hebron Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation was Friday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel. A memorial fund has been established for Hebron Lutheran Church.
