William G. Higgins of Marion recently was awarded a certificate recognizing him for 60 years of membership and service in the American Legion. He served in the Navy during World War II and is a current member of James William Miesse American Legion Post in Marion.

Post Cmdr. Richard Soyez presented the certificate to Higgins at a meeting March 3.

Legion has district meeting

District 4 of the Kansas American Legion gave a class Saturday at the post in Marion, with District 4 Vice Cmdr. Eszter Blair, Executive Committee members Tom Tschantz and Barb Smith, District Sgt. at Arms David Blair, and members from Lyndon, Burlington, and Marion.

The class covered mandatory reporting forms, Legion programs, new online reporting systems, and the roles of Legion post officers.
